Moreno Valley’s HireMoVal, a program designed to get city businesses to hire local residents, has kicked into gear four months after it started.
Two applications are being processed, and another 20 or so are “in the pipeline” and are expected to be processed shortly, said Marshall Eyerman, the city’s chief financial officer and treasurer.
Businesses in HireMoVal receive $1,000 from the city for every local resident they hire, up to five employees. All hires must work 35 hours a week for at least six months in order for the business to receive the payment, Eyerman said.
All hires must have a degree or certificate from an accredited school, university or vocational school, or have completed at least three Career Technical Education Courses through the Riverside County Office of Education. The CTE courses must have been completed within the last two years.
This is HireMoVal’s first year. It began July 1, the start of the city’s fiscal year, and will run through June 30 of next year.
Moreno Valley has budgeted $50,000 for this year’s program, Eyerman said.
