A 59-unit affordable housing project complex for seniors is under construction in downtown Riverside.
Mulberry Gardens is being developed at 2520 Mulberry Street and is expected to take one and a half to two years to complete, according to a statement on the city’s website.
Riverside and Eden Housing Inc. in Hayward, Ca. are the developers. The project’s cost was not disclosed.
Mulberry Gardens is being built on a 1.2-acre site that was previously occupied by one-story office buildings that were vacated. It will include a community room, management offices, mail and parcel room, laundry facilities, and a building maintenance shop.
Mulberry Gardens will be located near the 150-unit Mulberry Gardens Family Apartments, which will be built in a second phase.
Cost of the projects was not disclosed.
“I am committed to taking care of our seniors, which is why developments like this are vital,” Mayor Patricia Lock Dawson said in the statement. “With partners like Eden Housing, we’re tackling our housing crisis one corner, one unit, one household at a time.”
