Annual education address to be delivered twice

Ted Alejandre, San Bernardino County’s Superintendent of Schools, will deliver his first State of Education address to two different audiences.

On Sept. 16, Alejandre will speak at the California Theater of the Performing Arts, 562. W. Fourth St. San Bernardino, according to a statement posted on the district’s website.

On Sept. 24, Alejandre will deliver the same remarks at the First Assembly of God Church, 15260 Nisqualli Road Victorville.

The theme of this year’s address is “Unite. Inspire. Transform.” Alejandre, a former deputy superintendent who was elected to the top job in June, will discuss California’s new local control funding formula, local control accountability plans and new, tougher state standards and assessments for education, according to the statement.

This will be the first time the annual State of Education address will be delivered in two places, said Dan Evans, county spokesman.

“We’re such a large county and a lot of people in the High Desert don’t like to drive 40 or 50 miles to attend one event,” Evans said. “This is a way to make it a little easier and bring the event to them.”

San Bernardino County oversees 540 schools in 33 districts, Evans said.
