Peter Atkinson has been named dean of the of the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences at UC Riverside.
A genetics professor in the Department of Entomology, Atkinson has worked at UC Riverside for 28 years, according to a statement on the university’s website.
“I want to create as many opportunities as possible for CNAS students from all walks of life to experience success,” Atkinson said in the statement. “We have the ability to transform not just individual lives but the entire region.”
Atkinson’s transition to dean began about a year and a half ago, when he was named interim dean of the of the college. The study of agriculture and natural resources focuses on the production, distribution, and consumption of food and other agricultural products.
“Our location and resources position CNAS and UC Riverside as a magnet for the brightest minds in science, technology, engineering, math, and medicine,” Atkinson said in the statement.
