Apple Valley’s Measure P Oversight Committee recently held its first meeting during which it considered upgrading the town’s contract with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
After taking their oath of office in the town council chambers, the five-member panel discussed adding one sergeant, eight deputies, and one sheriff’s service specialist, according to a statement on the town’s website.
Committee members agreed to recommend those additions to the town’s law enforcement contract to the town council.
“This committee reflects the voice of our residents,” said Mayor Scott Nassif in the statement. “Measure P was passed because our community wanted to invest in local priorities like public safety, roads, and essential services. These committee members will help ensure those funds are spent responsibly.”
Apple Valley voters approved Measure P, a one-percent sale tax increase, in 2024 to help pay for basic services. The Oversight Committee will meet regularly to review how that money is spent.
