Paulette Brown-Hinds, publisher of The Black Voice News in Riverside, has received an honorary doctorate of humane letters from Cal State San Bernardino,
A 1990 graduate of CSUSB, Brown-Hinds was recognized for her philanthropy and acumen as a business leader, according to a statement on the university’s website.
Brown-Hinds has worked for nearly 30 years in media, communications and community engagement. She is the second-generation publisher of The Black Voice News, which was founded 50 years ago.
In 1999, Black Voice News became the first online African-American news publication on the west coast.
Three years ago, Brown-Hinds was named board president of the California Newspaper Publishers Association, the first African-American to lead that trade association. She was also the first person of color to chair the Inland Empire Community Foundation board, according to the statement.
