Cardenas Markets Foundation is accepting applications for its 2022 college scholarship program.
Next year, the foundation plans to provide 59 scholarships of $3,000 each to students in communities where Cardenas Markets operates, according to a statement released last week.
That’s a total of $177,000 and a $1,000-per-scholarship increase from last year.
Recipients will be chosen based on their academic record, financial need, leadership abilities and how much they’re willing to serve their local community.
“We understand that the cost of tuition and fees continues to increase year over year, and it’s becoming increasingly challenging to cover these rising costs,” said Adam Salgado, foundation president, in the statement. “We are pleased to step-in and help defray some of these costs for our future leaders.”

The nonprofit foundation is the charitable division of Ontario-based Cardenas Markets, which operates 59 stores throughout California, Arizona and Nevada.
