It just became a little more difficult to get industrial projects approved in Fontana.
The city council recently approved environmental and building requirements regarding industrial development that are intended to improve air quality, according to a statement on the city’s website.
In some instances, the adopted regulations are stricter than federal, state and regional guidelines.
Those regulations include a three-minute limit on idling by trucks outside of warehouses, zero emission standards for yard equipment, a truck routing plan for all industrial facilities and plug in outlets on all loading docks that serve refrigeration units to precent excessive idling.
“This ordinance is more restrictive and environmentally progressive than other cities in the region because we are taking it very seriously,” said Phil Burum, deputy city manager, in the statement. “While Fontana won’t solve the problem on its own, we can certainly lay the ground work for others to follow suit.”
