La Verne has adopted measured designed to cut water use in the city by 20 percent.
The urgency ordinance, approved unanimously Monday by the city council, restricts but doesn’t completely eliminate the washing by hose of sidewalks, driveway, parking lots and other paved surfaces, according to a report in the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin.
Restaurants, cafes and other public eateries may not serve water to customers unless the customers ask for it, and decorative fountains can only operate if they use a recycling system.
The city isn’t issuing fines now, but flagrant offenders could be subject to penalties, according to the report.
