Moreno Valley has added eight sworn law enforcement officers and a fire medic squad in its 2023-’24 and 2024-’25 fiscal year budgets.
The officers will be added during the next two years, bringing the total to 174 officers responsible for patrolling the city of 214,000, according to a statement on Moreno Valley’s website.
Moreno Valley, which contracts with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department has added 16 sworn officers since the start of 2022.
The fire medic squad will respond to medical emergencies, which make up most of the city’s 911 calls. It will include one new vehicle and six additional personnel and is the third such squad brought on by the city since last year.
Moreno Valley’s fire department is part of CAL FIRE/Riverside County, a regional fire protection agency.
Also, the two-year budget adds $5.6 million from Moreno Valley’s capital project to help pay for pavement improvement.
“These new investments will lead to reduced police and fire response times, improved road conditions, and cleaner streets across Moreno Valley,” said Mayor Ulises Cabrera in the statement.
