City finishes historic trail connection

Moreno Valley has completed its section of the Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail.

The trail, which spans more than 1,200 miles from San Francisco to the U.S./Mexico border, was celebrated with a plaque dedication on July 24 at John F. Kennedy Veterans Memorial Park, according to a statement on the city’s website.

The project was paid for with a grant from the California Transportation Commission.

“This project … connects our communities and serves as a reminder of our rich history,” said Mayor Ulises Cabrera in the statement. “It’s a beautiful asset within our city, and a testament to Moreno Valley’s commitment to preserving our local heritage.”

Listed on the National Historic Trail Registry, the Bautista trail covers approximately eight miles in Moreno Valley. It connects all of the city, from Towngate Boulevard in the north to the Lake Perris Recreation Area in the south, according to the statement.
