Riverside City Manager John A. Russo has been named Public Partner of the Year by the Inland Empire Economic Partnership.
Russo, Riverside’s city manager since May 2015, oversees a workforce of more than 2,400 people, according to a statement.
He was recognized Wednesday evening during the organization’s annual dinner and awards ceremony. Specifically, Russo was credited with improving the city’s downtown cultural district by brokering the deal that will bring the Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art, Culture and Industry to that part of the city.
When completed, that project will occupy a 60,000-square-foot building now part of the Riverside Public Library’s main branch.
Every year the partnership recognizes individuals and organizations that have helped improved the quality of life in the Inland region.
Santa Claus Inc., Southern California Newspaper Group and the James Irvine Foundation were among those honored at this year’s dinner and award’s ceremony, which was held Wednesday in Ontario.
