Moreno Valley is trying to get its citizens more involved in the city’s budget process.
Its online pilot project, Balancing Act, allows users to try to create a balanced city budget while providing feedback on their efforts, according to a city statement.
Balancing Act, which debuted recently, also dispenses information on the city’s spending priorities during the 2018-’19 fiscal year budget and shows how tax dollars are generated and where that money is spent.
The goal is to give community members an inside look at how their city’s budget is put together.
“We want our residents to see firsthand that we are using their tax dollars efficiently and effectively,” City Manager Michelle Dawson said in the statement.
