Riverside University trauma center receives level one designation

Community health center opens in Palm Springs

The Palm Springs Community Health Center is again serving patients, this time with a new name and at a slightly different location.

Formerly called the Palm Springs Family Care Center, the 35,000-square-foot facility is at 191 Sunrise Way, next door to the family care center’s former location, according to a statement.

Operated by Riverside University Health System, the community health center provides medical, dental and behavioral health services to adults and children, all under one roof. It also offers HIV/STD testing and family planning, while providing resources and referrals for those needing help with mental health problems.

Physicians there also can provide comprehensive diabetes care, chronic disease management, and other treatments a primary care doctor usually offers.

“The expansion of county health services in Palm Springs, through our new state-of-the-art Palm Springs Community Health Center, is a major advancement for health care in the Coachella Valley,” said Riverside County Fourth District Supervisor V. Manuel Perez in the statement. “[More than] three times the size of the previous location, this community health center will have significantly more space to integrate services, delivering care to the most vulnerable. I am very proud of our new community health center in Palm Springs.”

Riverside University Health System operates 13 community centers as well as a 439-bed medical center in Riverside County.  Many patients treated at those facilities have trouble paying for quality, cost efficient care and would not be able to get the treatment they need elsewhere, according to the statement.
