The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to extend the leave of absence of employees who were impacted by the Dec. 2 terrorist shooting in San Bernardino that left 14 people dead.
The 5-0 vote means that about 80 to 100 people who work in the county’s Division of Environmental Health Services will not be required to return to work until at least Jan. 12, said Felisa Cardona, county spokeswoman.
The division, which is a state agency administered by the county, reopened Monday but is being staffed temporarily by Riverside County and state employees.
Those employees are working out of temporary facilities. The division’s offices in San Bernardino and Rancho Cucamonga are closed indefinitely.
“Our focus is on getting our work done while taking into consideration the needs of our employees,” Cardona said.
