County Fire to replace fire station

The San Bernardino County Fire Protection District will build a station on land owned by the San Bernardino City Unified School District.

Fire Station 227 will replace the current Station 227 at 282 W. 40th St., which has been in use since 1953, according to a statement on the county’s website.

The fire protection district will lease the property – approximately one acre on the Arrowhead Elementary School property at 3825 N. Mountain Ave. – from the school district. Financial terms of that agreement, and a construction timeline for the project, were not disclosed.

The lease could last up to 99 years.

“With the city of San Bernardino having one of the highest call volumes in the country, this fire station is a necessary expansion of our capacity to ensure swift, efficient emergency responses,” said Supervisor Joe Baca, Jr. in the statement. “It will bolster our preparedness, and our ability to protect our community and the surrounding areas.”

The new station will serve the Wildwood Park neighborhood and surrounding areas, according to the statement.
