Cal State San Bernardino has renamed its college of education the James R. Watson and Judy Rodriguez Watson College of Education, in tribute to a couple with a long history of supporting the university.
The school’s renaming, helped by the Watson’s $8.4 million donation to the college, was celebrated during a ceremony earlier this month, according to a statement on the school’s website.
“We have been blessed more than the university has been blessed by what we have been able to provide financially and in our involvement,” James Watson said during the ceremony. “It’s truly been a wonderful experience for Judy and I. We understand the value of education, and the vital role Cal State San Bernardino has in the Inland Empire in providing an affordable and world-class education.”
This is the second named college at Cal State San Bernardino. In 2016, the College of Business was renamed the Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration after Jack H. Brown, longtime president and chief executive officer of Stater Bros. Markets.
