Cal State San Bernardino’s Center for Aging has received a $747,000 grant from the National Institutes of Health.
The money will pay for research that will help determine if social activities can reduce cognitive decline and dementia among older people, according to a statement on the university’s website.
“I’m proud to announce this award for the work that they [the Center for Aging] is doing, and I look forward to seeing the impact their research will make for the seniors in our community and beyond,” said Rep. Pete Aguilar, D-Redlands, in the statement.
Aguilar arranged the grant, part of an estimated $2 million he has helped raise for the center during the past three years as a member of the House Appropriations Committee.
Specifically, the grant will be used to hire undergraduate and graduate students who will work as research assistants, according to the statement.
