Discount airline will offer non-stop flight from ONT to New Jersey

Frontier Airlines will begin offering nonstop flights from Ontario International Airport to Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey starting next spring.

That service, which Frontier Airlines officials announced Tuesday, is one of 15 routes the air carrier will add starting in March or April of next year, according to a statement.

“Landing nonstop service to Newark has been a high priority since the Ontario International Airport Authority gained local control of the airport in November 2016,” Mark Thorpe, the authority’s chief executive officer, said in the statement. “Our airport and Newark Liberty are similar in offering travelers a more predictable, less stressful, convenient option when they fly.”

Newark Liberty will be the 23rd destination served by Ontario International in the United States, Mexico and Taiwan and the second on the east coast.

JetBlue operates a daily nonstop flight from Ontario International to John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.

Ontario International is a full-service airport with nine carriers and an average of 67 daily departures. It was recently voted the fastest-growing airport in the United States by Global Traveler USA, a magazine for frequent travelers.

Frontier Airlines is a low-fare carrier based in Denver. The airline employs approximately 3,000 people and serves more than 100 cities in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, according to the airline’s website.
