Discount mall could get larger

The Lake Elsinore Planning Commission has approved a plan that will help make possible the expansion of Lake Elsinore Outlets.

The five-year project approved by the commission Tuesday does not include provisions for expanding the discount mall next to Interstate 15, according to a report in The Press-Enterprise.

However, it does make permanent current regulations and fees, and it locks in place a pledge by the mall’s owner, Mohr Affinity LLC, to help the city build a landscaped median on Collier Avenue, one of the mall’s major access routes.

Also, ownership will install a bridge sign on the Nichols Road overpass above Interstate 15 that will identify the mall – which is undergoing a major renovation – and the city, the report stated.

Baldwin Park-based Mohr Affinity wants to develop four buildings ranging from 2,000 to 8,000 square feet north of the mall. Combined, the structures would cover about 20,000 square feet.

Council members are scheduled to discuss their initial approval of the project Jan. 27 and hold a final vote on the proposal Feb. 10, the report stated.
