Jeffrey Veik of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection has been named Eastvale’s operational division fire chief.
Veik has worked for CAL FIRE for 26 years, the last six as northwest division chief, according to a statement on the city’s website.
For the past 15 years, he has been assigned to CAL FIRE’s incident management teams, while working in the plans and operations sections and with the department’s command staff.
Veik has also worked in cooperative fire protection, municipal fire protection and truck management, among other disciplines.
CAL FIRE is state’s emergency fire protection department. It covers more than 31 million of privately owned wild lands and provides emergency service in 36 of the state’s 58 counties, according to the agency’s website.
Veik will answer to Eastvale’s city manager. That position is now held on an interim basis by Bryan Jones.
