Furniture distributor to move to Hesperia

Modway Inc., a furniture distribution company, will open a logistics facility in Hesperia that will employ 200 people.

The warehouse-distribution building, which is expected to begin operating in the fall of 2021, will cover one million square feet at Interstate 15 and U.S. Route 395, according to a statement.

It will be part of the 60-acre Hesperia Commerce Center One project, which will consist of three Class-A industrial buildings, each of which will cover at least one million square.

Modway will lease the property from Exeter, a Philadelphia-based investment firm that recently bought the property from the Covington Group in Dallas for an undisclosed sum. The terms of the lease were not disclosed.

“I want to welcome Modway, Inc. and their team to the High Desert,” said Supervisor Robert Lovingood said in the statement.  “With its freeway, rail and aviation links and affordable land, the High Desert is a great location for logistics firms.”

Modway operates two U.S. distribution sites: one in Fontana, a 310,000-square-foot facility that it plans to close next year, and one in New Jersey. Its Hesperia facility will triple its West Coast operations, according to the statement.
