Riverside City College has received a $1.5 million grant that it will use to help students who have run afoul of the law.
The funding from the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office will assist RCC’s Rising Scholars Program, which supports students who are or have been incarcerated and are enrolled in one class, according to a statement on the school’s website.
Students with close relatives who have been incarcerated, or students who have been arrested, convicted, or adjudicated without being detained, may also be eligible for some services.
Those services include academic counseling, career assessments, tutoring, peer support, financial assistance, and events, including workshops and field trips.
The five-year grant is a part of the 2022-23 California State Budget Act. Riverside City College is one of 44 California community colleges chosen to be grant recipients, according to the statement.
