Two local agencies have secured $1.1 million in grants that will be used to increase the number of bachelor’s degree recipients among groups that historically have been underserved in higher education.
The grants, which will be spread over two years, were obtained by the Cal State San Bernardino Philanthropic Foundation and Growing Inland Achievement, according to a statement released Tuesday.
San Francisco-based College Futures Foundation donated $800,000, the James Irvine Foundation $300,000.
Growing Inland Achievement is a group of local officials, mostly academics, that seeks to improve the Inland Empire’s economy by upgrading higher education.
It will use the grants to hire more staff, raise money and develop a strategic plan that will encourage more collaboration among local institutions according to the statement.
“We are excited to expand the capacity of our cross-sector collaborative to work together in new and innovative ways to achieve economic success through increased degree attainment in the Inland Empire,” said Ann Marie Allen, senior director of Growing Inland Achievement, in the statement.
