Eighty-five High Desert students recently received scholarships from the Dr. Prem Reddy Family Foundation.
The scholarships for students who plan to pursue careers in health sciences were presented June 12 in Victorville during the foundation’s annual awards ceremony, according to a statement.
“The event was more than a celebration of achievement, it was a tribute to the passion and purpose it takes to pursue a calling in healthcare,” said Sunitha Reddy, the foundation’s executive director, in the statement, “These scholars are the reason this foundation exists. Through their commitment to serve, they carry forward a legacy grounded in compassion, access, and hope.”
This year’s scholarship recipients are from 16 to 54 years old. A record number of applications were received this year, a sign that more people are interested in health care careers and that many of them will need financial help in order to pursue that goal, according to the statement.
Dr. Prem Reddy, Prime Healthcare’s founder, chairman and chief executive officer, started the foundation in 1989. It supports scholarships, health education, public health programs, and community clinics, locally and worldwide.
Ontario-based Prime Healthcare is the fifth largest for-profit health system in the United States, according to the company’s website.
