A proposed housing development for low-income military veterans is scheduled to go before the Jurupa Valley City Council Thursday.
The project, which will be built by Habitat for Humanity, has already been approved by the city’s planning commission and needs only the council’s approval to happen, according to a report in The Press-Enterprise.
Any low-income veteran who received an honorable discharge and who lives or works in Riverside County is eligible to apply for a home.
The development, which will be built on five acres, will consist of 26 single-family homes and a small park. Lots will average 5,000 square feet and each house will have three or four bedrooms.
If approved, the project will be the first of its kind built by Habitat for Humanity in Riverside County.
Seventeen families have already qualified to buy one of the houses, and another 25 to 30 families are in the application process. An applicant must contribute 500 hours of labor toward the project to obtain a home, the report stated.
A family of four with an annual income of $31,000 to $50,000 is considered low income, according to the report.
