Medline Industries in Illinois, the largest private manufacturer and distributor of healthcare products in the United States, has purchased Professional Hospital Supply in Temecula.

Founded in 1981, Professional Hospital is a wholesale medical, dental and hospital equipment supplier with clients in six states in the western United States, according to a report originally published in The Press-Enterprise.

Professional Hospital, which has maintained its headquarters in Temecula since 1987, averages about $800 million in annual revenue. The company employs about 1,500 people, making it one of the largest private employers in southwest Riverside County.

The transaction will give both companies combined more than 12,000 employees worldwide, along with 40 distribution centers and 19 manufacturing operations. Combined sales of the two companies was more than $6.6 billion last year, according to the report.

Professional Hospital will operate as a Medline subsidiary but will stay in Temecula and keep the Professional Hospital name. Medline manufactures and distributes more than 350,000 products to hospitals, doctor’s offices and surgical centers, according to the report.
