The Inland Empire’s two largest universities have been named among the top universities in the United States by a publication.
Cal State San Bernardino was ranked 43rd and UC Riverside 69th on Washington Monthly’s list of the country’s top national universities for 22.
No other Inland Empire institutions of higher learning made the rankings, which focus on four-year institutions that award mostly bachelor’s degrees in arts and science.
“These rankings by Washington Monthly reflect the efforts by our faculty, staff and administrators to create a learning environment that also encourages civic and community engagement,” said Cal State San Bernardino President Tomás D. Morales is a statement.
Graduates are judged based on social mobility, research, and promoting public service.
Four hundred and fifty institutions were ranked. Stanford, University of Pennsylvania, MIT, Princeton, Duke, Harvard, Yale, Cornell and the University of California Berkeley made up the top 10.
Washington Monthly is a bimonthly magazine based in Washington, D.C. It covers government, politics and education.
