The Johnson & Johnson vaccine will again be administered at all COVID-19 clinics operated by Riverside County.
County health officials lifted the ban based on recommendations from state and county officials who stopped use of the vaccine temporarily after a few severe reactions were reported nationwide, according to a statement.
The vaccine, which unlike other COVID-19 treatments requires only one shot to be effective, will be available starting Thursday at the Alessandro High School in Hemet. It will be available at other county clinics and mobile vaccine sites next week.
“Bringing back the Johnson & Johnson vaccine will provide us with another tool to help vaccinate as many Riverside County residents as possible,” said Dr. Geoffrey Leung, public health officer for Riverside County, in the statement. “We are confident the vaccine is safe and effective.”
Riverside County has approximately 17,000 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine ready for use. It has been administered more than 17,000 times in the county without a bad reaction, according to the statement.
