If you believe you’re seeing more businesses advertising available jobs, it’s probably not your imagination.
Nationwide, there were 5.3 million job openings during May, the most openings in 15 years, according to data released Tuesday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
That was a slight increase compared with April, and the number of voluntary quits – 2.7 million – was essentially the same month-over-month, the report stated.
About 1.7 million people were laid off or otherwise let go from their job in May, roughly the same monthly rate recorded during the past year.
The report was in line with the department’s most recent jobs numbers, which found that U.S. employer added 223,000 jobs in June and that the national unemployment rate was 5.5 percent.
