Larger Stater Bros. Planned

Stater Bros. is preparing to expand in Norco.

The supermarket chain plans to build a 44,200-square-foot energy-efficient store that will open next spring in the Norco Village Shopping Center, according to a statement released Monday.

That store, at the southwest corner of River Road and Corydon Street, will replace the current Stater Bros. at 1999 River Road.

No construction date was announced. Everyone who works at the current store is expected to  move to the Norco Village location.

The new store, which will be next to Corona and Eastvale, will be about 45 percent larger than the market at 1991 River Road and will employ approximately twice as many people, according to the statement.

The 13-acre Norco Village shopping center, which has approximately 113,00 square feet of retail and office space, was developed by Lewis Retail Centers in Upland. The planned Stater Bros. store will be that project’s anchor tenant.

Based in San Bernardino, Stater Bros. operates 169 store and employs approximately 18,000 people. It’s Southern California largest privately owned supermarket chain and the Inland Empire’s largest private employer, according to the statement.
