Eastvale has decided to build its own library.
The city has started the Eastvale Library Giving Campaign, which officially got underway with a $2.5 million donation from Randall and Janell Lewis, according to a statement on the city’s website.
Randall Lewis is executive vice president and principal of the Upland-based Lewis Operating Corp., a member of the Lewis Group of Companies, which develop planned communities, multifamily projects, and shopping centers in California and Nevada.
Earlier this year, during a strategic planning meeting, the city council made building a library a top priority for the city, which was incorporated 11 years ago and has 70,000 residents. The council accepted the Lewis family’s donation – which included the library’s first book Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein – at the State of the City event earlier this month.
“The city is extremely grateful to Randall and Janell Lewis for their years of investment in helping shape our city and this generous donation to our future city library,” said City Manager Bryan Jones in the statement. “An Eastvale Library will create a welcoming and friendly place for our community to gather and enjoy books, art, culture, and innovation.”
