Local food bank receives grant

Feeding America Riverside/San Bernardino has received a $12,000 grant from the Darden Foundation.

The donation will be used by the food bank in the greatest areas of need, including summer feeding sites, Kids Markets and at more than 300 Inland charities that rely on Feeding America Riverside/San Bernardino for assistance, according to a statement.

“One in eight people struggle with hunger in the Inland Empire, including over 200,000 children,” said Stephanie Otero, the food bank’s chief executive officer, in the statement. “Hunger does not discriminate and there are many children, families and seniors who turn to our food bank for help. The Darden Foundation’s donation will go a long way for the people in our community.”

Every dollar donated to Feed America Riverside/San Bernardino can provide up to nine meals. It’s one of the largest food banks in the Inland Empire, donating more than 22 million pounds of food annually.

The Darden Foundation is the parent company of Olive Garden, Bahama Breeze, Eddie V’s, Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen, LongHorn Steakhouse, The Capital Grille, Seasons 52, and Yard House. It owns 12 restaurants in the Inland Empire, according to the statement.
