Local food bank to join in national effort to fight hunger

Feeding America Riverside/San Bernardino, the Inland Empire’s largest food bank, will join in a nationwide effort next month to end hunger.

September is Feeding America’s Hunger Action Month, which is meant to draw attention to the fact that 41 million Americans, including nearly 13 million children, don’t get enough to eat every day, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

In Riverside and San Bernardino counties, roughly 400,000 people struggle to find enough to eat every day, including one in five children who may only get meals from the free and reduced lunch program provided by their schools.

Over the month, the community is asking community members to take action, including:

  • Volunteer at the FARSB Distribution Center in Riverside;
  • Conduct a food drive with their friends, family and colleagues;
  • Sign up for a Succeed & Feed Corporate Team Building Days;
  • Make a donation online www.FeedingIE.org/donate
  • Donate at a local Norms Restaurants as a part of the Make Caring the Norm campaign;
  • Donate to the in-store Hunger Is campaign at Vons, Albertsons, and Pavilions locations.
