CalPortland, a manufacturer and distributor of cement and other building products, will upgrade its facility in Oro Grande in the High Desert.
No schedule has been announced for the upgrade, which is expected to cost approximately $61 million, according to a statement released Tuesday by San Bernardino County.
CalPortland began in 1891 as Portland Cement. It started in Colton, and was the first cement production facility west of the Rocky Mountains. Today, CalPortland serves six western states and two Canadian provinces.
In addition to its Oro Grande facility, CalPortland also has an operation in Apple Valley. The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors recently recognized the company for its 125 years of doing business in the county.
Oro Grande is an unincorporated community between Victorville and Barstow.
