Cal State University San Bernardino receives grant money

Major overhaul of San Bernardino Park has begun

Construction has begun on a $13.8 million renovation of Seccombe Lake Park in San Bernardino.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held March 27 at the 44-acre facility near downtown, according to a statement released by the city.

Planned improvements at San Bernardino’s second-largest park include restoration of the park’s lake, landscaping and irrigation, renovation of the gazebo and basketball courts, lights, concrete walking paths, playground equipment and an upgrade of the island in the middle of the lake.

Electric vehicle charging stations and fishing stations around the lake will be installed, and drinking fountains, restrooms, and trash enclosures will be upgraded. Some improvements will made to bring it into full compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act.

The park will be closed during the renovation, which is expected to take about one year. Funding will come American Rescue Plan Act, and a $1 million donation from the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians.

  1. Yeah let’s give the homeless something more to tear up and burn down and better living and restroom facilities. Out of the 300 people removed from that park only 50 took assistance? The rest just moved on to the outside of the gates of the park and the cemetery across the street. Give it time they will move back and it will be trashed again. They are like roaches. You clean one area they move away then you clean the area they infested and they move back to the old area and trash it again. Money wasted I say. All that funding to help and no takers so where does the extra money go to make the city officials look good.

    • Some of the homeless have moved to Highland ave and the 330. Put their tents up and it looks gehetto.

    • I have hoped and wished that San Manuel Indian Reservation, would donate money to help rebuild a new animal shelter that is behind the orange show target store. That shelter is so old and out dated by decades, and to know by a San Bernardino police officer,, that those animals don’t have not even a security guard to make sure they aren’t stolen for dog fights, and on news weeks later a women went and broken in and let the dogs out. It’s a open chain link dog runs, with so many dogs in a cage they are scared and don’t show a glimpse of joy that a adopted owner would want to see to give a forever home. And in the 115 degree summers the dogs being outdoors and only a mister sometimes spraying hot water doesn’t make a dog look healthy to want to adopt. The casino down street my home has non stop traffic makes me going to market on weekends now take me 20 min one way because traffic they have on weekends since the hotel came up. And on commercials San Manuel says highland ca because they know San Bernardino is a bad news sad town, but that’s the city the casino is in so spend some money and help rebuild a modern safe shelter that help dogs and cats look happy healthy so they can have a chance at life that all creatures want on earth.

  2. This is nice, but what would be really nice… if you could get across THIS CITY without damaging your car by driving through massive potholes. There are many San Bernardino City streets that have major potholes. Tax dollar spending at it’s finest.
