Marilyn statue is ready for a PS encore

Forever Marilyn is returning to Palm Springs.

The 26-foot sculpture of Marilyn Monroe that spent two years in downtown Palm Springs, from 2012 to 2014, will be unveiled Saturday at Museum Way and Bellardo Road.

The sculpture, by the late artist Seward Johnson, was first displayed in Chicago in 2011. It has also been shown in Australia and China.

During its first time in Palm Springs, it attracted a steady stream of visitors daily and generated millions of dollars in local retail sales. City officials are hoping for a repeat performance.

“The return of “Forever Marilyn” will be a huge economic boost to our small businesses, who have experienced a challenging year and a half due to COVID restrictions,” said City Councilmember Geoff Kors, who serves as liaison to the Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce and other business and tourism organizations, in the statement. “The city council is doing everything we can to support our local businesses on the road to recovery and we are excited to partner with P.S. Resorts to return Marilyn back to downtown Palm Springs.”

The unveiling ceremony is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. For more information, go to PalmSpringsForeverMarilyn.com, or follow the exhibit on Facebook at Facebook.com/PalmSpringsForeverMarilyn.

While I support Women’s rights I don’t support the fuss about Forever Marilyn protest in Palm Springs.
I am weary of protest for protest sake. And dressing this iconic figure in a Prairie Dress is not the answer.
Protest about meaningful things for women such as the lessening of Abortion Rights and Healthcare. But for Heaven sake leave Forever Marilyn alone!
