The State of California Emergency Medical Services Authority and the Riverside County Emergency Management Department have established an oxygen depot at an undisclosed location in the county.
The depot is made up of two large oxygen tanks that will be available to hospitals in Riverside County and surrounding counties, according to a statement.
“Oxygen suppliers are having a difficult time meeting the high demand of area hospitals due to the COVID- 19 pandemic,” said Bruce Barton, director of the EMD, in the statement. “This isn’t limited to just one hospital. COVID patients need lots of oxygen and that’s taxing the entire healthcare system.”
The depot will be staffed 24 hours a day. The facility was placed in Riverside County because the county is centrally located, according to the statement.
