Menifee is trying to make it easier for businesses and religious institutions to operate outside.
Starting last week, certain businesses – including salons, barbershops, fitness centers, and churches that wish to hold outdoor services – will be able to get an outdoor operating permit with little difficulty, according to a statement on the city’s website.
A permit is free and may be obtained over the counter. All that’s required is approval by the tenant and property owner and a site plan.
All businesses must comply with federal, state, and county regulations before they may operate outdoors.
Menifee’s action streamlines the outdoor permitting process that the city put in place in March when the COVID-19 pandemic began to take hold.
“It is important for the City of Menifee to do everything we can to support our local businesses during this pandemic, and still protect the health and safety of the community,” Council Member Lesa Sobek said in the statement. “This new program will provide the needed support to our Menifee businesses so they are able to retail their employees and remain viable – as much as possible – during the pandemic.’’
