Merida to deliver Hays lecture

Kevin Merida, Los Angeles Times’ executive editor, will deliver the 54th Hays Press-Enterprise Lecture at UC Riverside next month.

Scheduled to be held at 6 p.m. May 9 at the University Theatre, this year’s address will be the first in three years that will be on campus in front of an audience, according to a statement on the university’s website.

Merida has been in charge of the Times’ newsroom since 2018. Before coming to the Times he was senior vice president at ESPN, a Congressional correspondent for the Washington Post and a national correspondent and special projects reporter for the Dallas Morning News.

The Hays Press-Enterprise Lecture Series was established in 1966 by the late Howard H. (Tim) Hays, who was editor of The Press-Enterprise at the time, according to the statement.
