Millennials, defined as anyone born between 1982 and 2000, now make up more than one-quarter of the U.S. population.
About 83.1 million people fall into that category, exceeding the baby boomers, who total about 75.4 million, according to data released recently by the U.S Census Bureau.
Overall, millennials are more diverse than the generations that preceded them: 44.2 percent are part of a minority race or ethnic group, meaning a group that isn’t white or Hispanic, the data stated.
Those figures are based on data gathered between April 2010 and July of last year.
