Mixed-use project breaks ground in Perris

Construction has started on a logistics and commercial project in Perris that will cover nearly one million square feet when it’s completed.

The Perris Gateway Commerce Center will consist of a 950,000-square-foot logistics facility and a 37,000-square-foot commercial center on Ramona Expressway between Nevada Road and Webster Avenue, according to a statement on the city’s website.

The project, which broke ground recently, is expected to create about 2,000 jobs.

Its commercial center will include sit-down and fast-casual restaurants and retail stores. Taco Bell, Starbucks, Sonic Burger and a Shell gas station-convenience store have all agreed to locate there.

Some businesses could open later this year. Cost of the project was not disclosed.

“We are thrilled for all the opportunities this project will bring to our city,” said Mayor Michael M. Vargas in the statement. “The increase in jobs, the road and flood safety improvements to the area, and the incredible job training partnerships will create lasting benefits for generations.”
