Moreno Valley has been recognized by the International City/County Management Association.
The association recently presented the city with its 2020 Local Government Excellence Award in the Community Diversity & Inclusion category, according to a statement on the city’s website.
Moreno Valley was recognized for its MoVaLearns-Mayors Challenge program, which helps career and technical education students at Moreno Valley College stay in school and finish their degrees.
“We created the program after deciding that increasing the number of college graduates is critical to our city’s success,” Mayor Yxstian Gutierrez said in the statement. “Too many students were dropping out for lack of money. We partnered with Moreno Valley College and found that just an extra $250 a month could make the difference in achieving that college degree. It’s a bargain in terms of return on investment.”
Moreno Valley won in the 50,000-plus population category, according to the statement.
