Moreno Valley’s small businesses will soon have an advantage when bidding on contracts with the city for goods, equipment, supplies, and materials.
The Vendor Preference Program, which Moreno Valley officials announced Wednesday, could give eligible businesses a five percent preference when submitting bids to the city, according to a statement on the city’s website.
“Supporting and growing Moreno Valley businesses is one of my top priorities,” said Mayor Yxstian Gutierrez in the statement. “I encourage all qualifying local businesses to take advantage of this innovative new program.”
To be eligible for the program, a business must meet the federal government’s definition of a small business: fewer than 100 employees and annual gross receipts of less than $10 million. The business must also be located in Moreno Valley, have a city business license, and have a resale license issued by the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration.
Moreno Valley businesses will receive contracts if their bid is within five percent of the lowest qualifying bid. Local businesses may also receive a city contract by matching the offer made by a non-local business, according to the statement.
