The national retail sector registered mixed results last week.
National retail sales dropped 0.4 percent for the week that ended Saturday but were up 2.8 percent year-over-year, according to the International Council of Shopping Centers Goldman Sachs Weekly Chain Store Sales Index, which was released Tuesday.
Cool weather in some parts of the country worked as a drag against some summer-clearance items that were on sale, the index found.
The council is predicting a three to four percent year-over-year increase in national retail sales in July.
