Newsom reinstates statewide ban on some businesses

Gov. Gavin Newsom has again placed a ban on indoor dining and has ordered the closing of bars, family entertainment, zoos and museums.

Newsom’s order, which he announced Monday in Sacramento, also requires gyms, churches and hair salons in 30 counties to close down, according to multiple reports.

Those counties include Riverside, San Bernardino, Orange and Los Angeles counties.

“We’re seeing an increase in the spread of the virus, so that’s why it’s incumbent upon all of us to recognize soberly that COVID-19 is not going away any time soon until there is a vaccine or an effective therapy,” Newsom was quoted as saying.

Restaurants may still have outdoor dining, and takeout orders, and bars and breweries may serve drinks outside if the beverage is accompanied by food.

As of Sunday, California had 320,804 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 7,017 deaths as a result of the disease, according to the state Department of Public Health.
