Chaffey College’s nursing program has added virtual reality to its curriculum.
The equipment, acquired with a $63,000 grant, has been included in the program’s fall curriculum, according to a statement on the school’s website.
Chaffey College is now one of only a handful of community colleges in Southern California that uses virtual reality to teach its nursing students.
“The introduction of virtual reality technology to our vocational nursing program provides our students another way to be prepared for treating real patients, and we are proud to be one of the first community colleges in the region to provide this resource,” said Chaffey College Dean of Health Sciences Eric Sorenson in the statement.
For years, Chaffey nursing students have used mannequins to learn how to care for patients, including delivering babies and checking vital signs.
The grant is from the Strong Workforce program, which the California Community College Board of Governors and the state legislature approved six years ago to promote technical education.
