Passenger traffic at Ontario International Airport grew nearly seven percent in April, airport officials reported recently.
Nearly 445,000 airline passengers traveled through Ontario International last month, an increase of 6.9 percent compared with April 2018, according to the Ontario International Airport Authority.
During the first quarter of this year, the airport handled more than 1.6 million arriving and departing passengers, a 5.2 percent rise over the first quarter of 2018.
One factor that contributed to that increase was the start of Delta Airlines’ daily non-stop flight to Atlanta last month. Delta plans to add a second roundtrip flight to Atlanta, its hub city, in June.
Ontario International also recorded double-digit growth in cargo volume, which increased 11 percent year-over-year in April to more than 61,800 tons. During the first quarter of this year, cargo shipments totaled more than 233,500 tons, a 3.4 percent increase compared with the first quarter of 2018.
Approximately 1.6 million people are expected to travel through Ontario International this summer, the airport authority reported.
