OIA to seek new parking contract

Officials with Ontario and Los Angeles International Airports will consider changes later this year to the parking management at Ontario International.

The airport’s contract with Parking Concepts Inc. expires this year, and officials plan to solicit bids during the next few months to operate the airport’s estimated 6,700 parking slots, according to a report originally published in the Daily Bulletin.

Ontario Airport Manager Jess Romo hinted at possible changes in a new contract, including changing where airport employees park.

Airport officials also want to incorporate more technology – possibly automated pay stations, like the ones used at some large shopping malls – into their parking operation, without eliminating attendants. The goal is to cut costs and maintain current level of service, according to the report.

Any proposal will have to be approved by the Los Angeles World Airports’ Board of Airport Commissioners before it can be submitted for bids.

Parking Concepts Inc. has been in business for nearly 40 years. It has offices in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Irvine, and it currently leases, manages or operates nearly 200 facilities, according to the company’s website.

Besides airports, those facilities include office buildings, hospitals, shopping centers, hotels and restaurants. They range from 200 to 25,000 parking spaces, according to the website.
