Passenger traffic at Ontario International Airport increased by a little more than 18 percent in August, the airport announced late Friday.
Arriving and departing travelers totaled 458,029 during that month, a year-over-year increase of 18.2 percent, according to Ontario International Airport Authority.
That broke down to 435,690 domestic and 22,339 international passengers, increases of 16.2 percent and 82.5 percent, respectively.
More than 3.3 million travelers moved through Ontario International during the first eight months of 2018, an increase of 13.2 percent compared with the first eight months of 2018, and those numbers are expected keep rising.
“As strong as these numbers are, they’re going to get even better in the months ahead as we’ve added flights and amenities,” airport commissioner Jim Bowman said in a statement.
Cargo business also kept growing in August.
Commercial freight and mail rose by 17.6 percent, to more than 68,000 tons. From January through August, cargo tonnage increased by more than 18 percent year over year, to 483,000 tons, the airport authority reported.
